Alien Planet: Found
Encircled in the picture above is the first planet from an alien solar system ever seen by humans. Located 500 light years from Earth, it's a planet eight times bigger than Jupiter. While it looks close to this sun-sized star in the picture, it's actually 11 times farther away from it than Neptune is from our sun. That = we're fucked. Click pic.

Giant Robotic Spider Is Going To Completely Destroy Liverpool On Friday
The 50-foot robotic spider you see pictured here is going to come alive on Friday and fuck all kinds of shit up in Liverpool.
Weighing 37 tons and standing 50ft high, the spider is currently clinging to the side of Concourse Tower in the city.

"The huge insect spotted in Liverpool is in fact entirely mechanical and part of a new piece of street theater organized to mark its year as Capital of Culture. It is thought the insect will come down from its current position tomorrow and then 'wake up' on Friday before starting to explore the city. Tens of thousands of visitors are expected in Liverpool over the three days to try and see the mechanical arachnid."

Apparently, the spider is a component in an elaborate bit of street theater that will take place at various landmarks throughout the city—culminating in a "spectacular finish" on Sunday.
So, I'm interested in seeing this but from very, very far away. Apparently, "French scientists" are going to pull it down so they can run "tests" on it in the new "Echo Arena" concert venue there. I call it "bullshit" and hope everyone has a "good time." And by "good time" I mean, "has a chance to get the fuck out of there before everything gets FUBAR." " " " " " "

LittleDog? WTF? The End Is Near.
Do you remember when BigDog was created? If not, click on those high-lighted words. Well now there's a LittleDog, meaning it's smaller, quieter, and more likey to not leave any traces of killing you. Enjoy.

This Woman Is A F*cking Moron
This is how a rainbow is made:
The formation of a rainbow involves a series of physical phenomena - reflection, refraction, dispersion and total internal reflection. The water droplets act as individual reflectors that disperse the light into the respective colors of the rainbow.
And this ignorant woman has no idea...

Well This Is Just F*cking GREAT
Wonderful, just wonderful. The UMass Mobile Manipulator, developed at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, can learn (by itself) how to use different tools (weapons).

"UMan uses a regular webcam to look down at a table from above. By analyzing differences between adjacent pixels, it guesses where an object's edges might be found. Then it prods the object and, on the basis of how it moves, revises its estimate of the object's shape. It continues shoving the object around, observing how its parts move in relation to each other. UMan will push the object backward and forward along its width and length and at a 45-degree angle to both, if necessary, until it's satisfied that it understands how the object moves. Wherever the movement is restricted, the robot concludes that there's a joint. UMan then uses that information to figure out the best way to manipulate the object. It can also tell if there are multiple joints, and how those relate to each other."
Oh my God this is the exact opposite of awesome. I can see it now: some robot lopping my melon off with a pair of compound pruning shears. Great, this is just great. Fuck you, UMass robot sympathizers. Now I have to break everything in my toolbox.

Insect Robots Scare the Living Sh*t Out Of Me
BAE (which undoubtedly stands for Bot Apocalypse Engineering) Systems has released a promo video of the robotic insects they've been developing for the U.S. Army as part of a $38 million contract. There are spider-bots, dragonfly-bots, and other kill-you-in-your-sleep-bots featured, and each one scares the living shit out of me.
"The robots will slither and crawl around corners, into caves, and through booby-trapped streets, sending images back to screens in a command center or to a screen mounted on a soldiers wrist. The purpose is to "extend the warfighter's senses and reach, providing operational capabilities that would otherwise be costly, impossible, or deadly to achieve," says Joseph Mait, MAST cooperative agreement manager for the Army Research Laboratory."
Here's video that looks like a realyl shitty video game:
Well that's wonderful and all, but what happens when I find one of these guys at the foot of my bed in the middle of the night? I'll tell you what happens -- I soil a $1,800 Tempur-Pedic mattress. And then what? And then sob into a pillow and beg my mom to smash the thing with a slipper.
