The End Of The Weekend Mixtape???
I received an e-mail today from Mixwit, the company that I make all the Weekend Mixtapes with stating that they will be closing up shop after their short year run.
"We regret to announce that Mixwit will cease to exist at the end of the year. The website and profiles will be turned off around Dec 27th and all embedded widgets will stop playing before the end of December.
We’ve put a year of work into Mixwit so this choice wasn’t taken lightly. We’re very grateful to be have been part of the mixtape revival of ‘08 and are satisfied to be able to to bow out while things are still good.
We’re very sorry that this has to end. We’re going to try to figure out some way to archive the artwork and playlists, if for nothing at least historic value. As for now, everything needs to be shut down by the end of the year just to make sure we’ve got a clean start for 2009."
So. That's that. No more. I'll be looking for another way to keep the Weekend Mixtape going. So if you want to listen to any of the past ones click HERE.
The one tape I'll be most disappointed about losing is the Winter Mixtape. That's got to be my favorite. Click here to enjoy it.
I've really enjoyed making these and helping spread music all around the internetz. We'll see how everything goes next year. But, this year needs to finish up.
Thanks for reading and listening.
Cheers.

Who's Not Ready To Leave The Party?
Find out with the BACtrack Breathalyzer. If you host a lot of parties or simply do a lot of drinking, you might want to check out this thing out ($72). This helpful gadget uses BluFire sensor technology to provide quick, accurate blood alcohol level readings, keeping you (or your guests) from over-indulging and getting behind the wheel — or worse, leaving with their ex-wife. Weekend Mixtape!!! 12/12/2008
It's a cold boring Friday isn't it, guys? On this week's tape: Bloc Party, Chairlift (<3), Electric Touch, The Radio Dept., Cranes, Ghostland Observatory and more. As always, be safe. "Try not to get into too much troubles, okay?" (2:24)

The Alphabet of Manliness
Maddox is a fucking genius. A genius that wrote this book. So you need to buy it. That's all you have to do. Buy for someone for Xmas, Valentine's Day, or just buy it for someone you hate. Just buy it. I'm not even going to describe it because that seems stupid. Click the pic to jump to Amazon and then click the pic there to read the first few pages. Genius!

Next Time Someone You Know Is Having A Bad Day, Send Them This Post
So you got a flat tire, you spilled coffee on yourself, and you missed a deadline. Well, meet Timothy Minnick. He's been divorced twice, his house foreclosed, his mobile home burned down, his dog was killed, his business went into bankruptcy and his brother died of a heart attack. Oh, and he was killed on Friday. Click pic.

This Xmas, Put Someone's Eye Out
Ensure the proper release of your paper airplanes and learn something along the way with the Electric Paper Plane Launcher ($16). This do-it-yourself science kit comes with everything you or your offspring need to build your own launcher, including informative instructions that teach as you go along. Launching planes at speeds of up to 31mph, it'll put your paper engineering to the test and your geekiness to 100%. Click pic for more.

Pimp Vs. Bug
This is Mr. Chi-City. He's pretty fucking great. You should check out his other videos. He's a mack. Maybe not so much when it comes to this bug though. But judging by the looks of it, I would've shit my pants until it left the room.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT: RADIOHEAD NOMINATED FOR SEVEN GRAMMY AWARDS
I never thought I'd see this day. Something, somewhere, has gone right, or wrong with the world. Radiohead's 'In Rainbows' (according to their MySpace profile) has been nominated for Album of the Year!

In addition to that amazing feat, the album has also been nominated for Best Alternative Music Album, Best Boxed or special Limited Edition Package, the track "House Of Cards" was nominated for Best Rock Song, Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals, and Best Short Form Music Video. Producer Nigel Godrich was nominated for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical for his work on the album.
In addition to that, I'm very pleased to announce that Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood's work in 'There Will Be Blood' has been nominated for Best Score Soundtrack Album.
Good luck, guys. Take home every one of them.

If You Want To Sleep Tonight, Don't Watch This
If you DO choose to watch it, I suggest you watch it in fullscreen.
AWESOME: The Craziest Video You'll See All Day
I'm not a fan of Metallica. In fact, there's only two or three songs of theirs I can stand. But Jeezy Creezy this video is nuts. I've watched it twice and I still don't know what the hell the song sounds like. Check it out.

The 2008 Christmas List
Well ladies and jellyspoons, it's that time of year again. Christmas. And it's time for you to start spending all your money on everyone else while you take "liquor breaks" at all the restaurants around the mall. It's been a quick year, and I've been preparing for this very post since the start of this year specifically for you...people that just can't figure out what to get for all your friends and family, or just that person that thinks they have everything.
Now, keep in mind, all the items listed were simply featured here on Nothing For X. I thought they were worth mentioning and hey, some might very well make a good gift for this time, or any time of the year. No, this is not my personal Xmas list but just because I may not want/need it doesn't mean someone else might not.
Click here for the 2008 Christmas List.
And if you'd like more, click here for the 2007 Christmas List.
Be sure to click on the "Older Posts" link at the bottom of the page so you don't miss anything. Below are some of the items you'll find. Happy shopping and Happy Holidays.
