Nothing Says Xmas Like Xmas Music: "Oh, Holy Crap"

All I can say is, I'm sorry, and you're welcome.

I posted this last year, but something happened where people started thinking this was Jeff Dunham's "Oh, Holy Crap," when clearly, it's not. So yeah. No it's not me. I don't know who sang it. All I know, is this is Xmas in it's truest, rawest form.

Note: Yes. It gets worse.

What better way to stay single by carrying your very own little companion cube with you! Made with geeky love from .100" thick reclaimed aluminum. It measures 1.25" x 1.25" (about 3cm x 3cm). The surface has a brushed finish that will wear over time. It's attached to a clip style key holder with a flexible metal cord. End to end it's almost 4." You know what else is also 4" end to end? Oh...wait. Nevermind. Anywho, it's currently sold out, but I'm sure you can find it somewhere in eBay or whatever. Click pic.

Five Songs I Heard Today

So while in the car tonight my iPod decided to go ahead and be nice to me for whatever reason and started playing all sorts of good stuff. Because it was nice to me, I thought, maybe I'll be nice and share this with some peeps. So here we go, I present to you: Five Songs I Heard Today.

Losing a Whole Year - From Third Eye Blind's (incredible?) debut album, their third single is, simply put, the realization that you just lost an entire year spending it with the waste of time you call your ex. And yes, I know there's a lot of us out there that know exactly what that feels like.

Paranoid feat. Kid Cudi - Kanye West shines the light on them beeyotches that like to ruin everything being paranoid.

Natalie Portman - I'm no longer a fan of Ozma, nor do I follow what goes on with Natalie Portman. But this song was written quite a few years ago and it still holds that same magic for me. In my first band, we used to cover this song and it felt great to play from start to finish. If nothing else, this is rather nostalgic for me. Don't mind the video accompanying this song, or the first 30 seconds of music before the actual song which is actually Ozma's song "Battlescars."

You Give Me Something - I've never heard of James Morrison before this song and I may never hear about him again. But I will say these two things: 1) This song just popped on my iPod and I don't know why I'd download/purchase this but it was just magically there. And 2), I thought this guy was black. Anywho, great song and it always sticks in my head. BTW, I'm pretty sure he can completely do without that guitar and it would sound exactly the same.

On Bended Knee - Now here's an old one by Boyz II Men. In all its ridiculous glory. I actually think this song is spectacularly written and definitely got the attention it deserved. As sappy and predictable as it is.

Happy 42nd Birthday Kiefer Sutherland!

I'm sure he'll be partying like this tonight.

The End Of The Weekend Mixtape???

I received an e-mail today from Mixwit, the company that I make all the Weekend Mixtapes with stating that they will be closing up shop after their short year run.

"We regret to announce that Mixwit will cease to exist at the end of the year. The website and profiles will be turned off around Dec 27th and all embedded widgets will stop playing before the end of December.

We’ve put a year of work into Mixwit so this choice wasn’t taken lightly. We’re very grateful to be have been part of the mixtape revival of ‘08 and are satisfied to be able to to bow out while things are still good.

We’re very sorry that this has to end. We’re going to try to figure out some way to archive the artwork and playlists, if for nothing at least historic value. As for now, everything needs to be shut down by the end of the year just to make sure we’ve got a clean start for 2009."

So. That's that. No more. I'll be looking for another way to keep the Weekend Mixtape going. So if you want to listen to any of the past ones click HERE.

The one tape I'll be most disappointed about losing is the Winter Mixtape. That's got to be my favorite. Click here to enjoy it.

I've really enjoyed making these and helping spread music all around the internetz. We'll see how everything goes next year. But, this year needs to finish up.

Thanks for reading and listening.
Cheers.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT: RADIOHEAD NOMINATED FOR SEVEN GRAMMY AWARDS

I never thought I'd see this day. Something, somewhere, has gone right, or wrong with the world. Radiohead's 'In Rainbows' (according to their MySpace profile) has been nominated for Album of the Year!

In addition to that amazing feat, the album has also been nominated for Best Alternative Music Album, Best Boxed or special Limited Edition Package, the track "House Of Cards" was nominated for Best Rock Song, Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals, and Best Short Form Music Video. Producer Nigel Godrich was nominated for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical for his work on the album.

In addition to that, I'm very pleased to announce that Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood's work in 'There Will Be Blood' has been nominated for Best Score Soundtrack Album.

Good luck, guys. Take home every one of them.

The 2008 Christmas List

Well ladies and jellyspoons, it's that time of year again. Christmas. And it's time for you to start spending all your money on everyone else while you take "liquor breaks" at all the restaurants around the mall. It's been a quick year, and I've been preparing for this very post since the start of this year specifically for you...people that just can't figure out what to get for all your friends and family, or just that person that thinks they have everything.

Now, keep in mind, all the items listed were simply featured here on Nothing For X. I thought they were worth mentioning and hey, some might very well make a good gift for this time, or any time of the year. No, this is not my personal Xmas list but just because I may not want/need it doesn't mean someone else might not.

Click here for the 2008 Christmas List.

And if you'd like more, click here for the 2007 Christmas List.

Be sure to click on the "Older Posts" link at the bottom of the page so you don't miss anything. Below are some of the items you'll find. Happy shopping and Happy Holidays.

Get Ready To Get Donkey Konged To Death

It includes an original, simulated wood grain 2600 console, 20 games including Asteroids, Donkey Kong, the infamous E.T., and Missile Command, two joysticks and two paddle controllers, a power supply, installation instructions and all the necessary hook-ups. Funny, 'cause something tells me if you're looking to purchase this for yourself, "hook-ups" probably isn't in your vocabulary. Wow! That's the second time I've used "hook-ups" in 5 years ;,( Click pic.

Everyone Could Use This Right About Now

Some people are notoriously bad at wrapping gifts. Help them evolve this year with the OpenX Precision Wrapping Paper Slitter ($6).

This handy dandy tool, with its scissor-beating gliding action, makes you look so good that you'll get accusations of taking advantage of the donation-only Girl Scout wrapping kiosk at the mall. And probably of the actual girl scouts. but I'll try not to repeat last year's mistakes. Click pic for more.
